Happy 4th & Nature's Fireworks
We have a family tradition of going to see the Salute to America at Greenfield Village every year around July 4th and this year was no exception. We got into Greenfield Village and settled into our normal spot under a tree which was perfect since it was 100 degrees and I was sweating just sitting there. It was going to be a great night for fireworks, until the first rumbles of thunder. At precisely the right time my brother John, who is a meteorologist stood up and announced we needed to move. You have to understand when he says you need to move you do, because he is generally the guy that will stand out in the storm. As we were running across the field you could feel the electricity in the air and smell the rain coming. We made inside just as the storm came through. We waited it out as those first rumbles of thunder turned into a succession of fierce storms, that in the end canceled the concert and the fireworks. Our only fireworks on Saturday night were those provided by Mother Nature but they were spectacular. It was a great time despite the storm and I am sure that we will remember the first year we got rained out.
Here are few photos around the village that I took before the storm.
P.S. The lightning photo I took with my iPhone.
Happy 4th!
