I miss it...

Since I finished Project 365 (over 2 months ago), I have been itching to do a project like that again. So be on the lookout in the next couple of weeks I will once again be posting a photo everyday on my website. I just need to figure out what to call it, I wanted to call it One a Day, but then I remembered the vitamin. Oh well, maybe Centrum? No, that won't work either. In the meantime, here are a couple that I shot today.

Happy 4th of July!

I love the 4th of July. What's not to love? Beautiful weather, lots of food and drinks with the added bonus of fireworks. Now that's a holiday!

We have been going to Greenfield Village's Salute to America for the past few years and it has quickly become one of my favorite traditions. We went last night and other than the soggy grass and the chilly air we had a great time. Greenfield Village and the DSO really do a fantastic job with this event. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra plays a concert before and during the fireworks. They also have plenty of people dressed in 19th century clothing walking around the village. It is a really cool experience. If you have never been, you definitely should check it out. Here are a couple pics from last nights fireworks.

Have a safe and happy 4th!

It's Over.....

I can't believe it, but Project 365 came to an end today. When I began this a year ago, my goal was simply to challenge my creativity daily, but it became much more than that for me. It gave me some insight into my creative process and also I began see all of the things that visually I was attracted to. These things would seemingly keep creeping up as subjects throughout the days.

Interestingly, I learned that I need to step out of my comfort zone. As with life, it is nice to be in your comfort zone, but when you are out of your comfort zone you'll grow much faster as an individual and you'll learn so much more.

So, it is with a mix of sadness and relief(that I never missed a day), that Project 365 comes to an end. I want to thank all of you who faithfully checked out my website daily to see what I had posted for the day and for your feedback.

I chose the One Way sign as my last picture to signify the passing of 365 days. As with the passing of all time once it has passed there is no going back and there is only one way to go and that is forward.

Introducing Riley Marie....

My niece Riley made her grand entrance into this world today at 3:15 p.m. She weighed in at 8lbs and 3oz, is 21 3/4" long and is absolutely beautiful (of course, she comes from a very good gene pool).

We spent the entire anxious day at the hospital waiting for Riley to make her grand entrance. I was more nervous for Kerry to give birth than I was for myself. Kerry and I are twins so we share a special bond and have always looked out for each other. It's pretty tough to just have to sit there and to not be able to do anything for her. I was so relieved when James finally came out and told us they had a girl. I am so happy and excited for them, I know that they will be fantastic parents.

Congratulations Kerry and James!

Check back often, I will be posting more pictures.

Note: Yes, I do realize I don't have any of Kerry and Riley but at her request I did not post any images of her.

Happy Day 300!

Yes, today is Day 300 of Project 365, but more importantly it is also my husband's birthday. Due to this great occasion, he has gained himself another day in Project 365. It also happens to be his second time in two days due to my lack of planning ahead. Oh well, I think he is quite attractive, so I don't mind. Happy Birthday!

Brrrr.....

I shot these this morning for Project 365. I didn't realize how cold it was until I was out there for almost an hour and thought that I had frostbite on my fingers. I managed to capture some cool images, so I guess it was worth it.

More than half way there....

I can't believe that I am half way through Project 365. I have found this project to be both exhilarating and at times difficult. I love that everyday is a new day and with it another chance to explore my world from a different perspective.

Here a few of my favorite Project 365 images from last six months....

It caught my eye....

Sometimes inspiration can come from seemingly the most ordinary things. Ok, I will be the first to admit, that I am usually inspired by some very mundane things and today was no exception. I was standing in my kitchen drinking a glass of chocolate milk while trying to read one of the many magazines that we seem to subscribe to, when the shadow from my glass on the wall caught my eye. I ran and got my camera because when it comes to sunlight you have to work quickly because the lighting can change dramatically in just a few minutes. I shot the glass for about a minute before I needed something to help elevate the glass to keep it in the sunlight and for this I used a glass casserole dish. The casserole dish itself created some really cool ethereal shadows and I used one of those images for Project 365 today.

What I really like about these images is that they have a vintage look(only the contrast was adjusted). They remind me of photographs taken by a great photographer named Ruth Bernhard in the 1940's and 1950's.

I love finding something cool or beautiful in an unexpected place. It just reminds me to always keep my eyes open and slow down or you risk missing something interesting or beautiful.

Welcome Winter!

These images were created as part of Project 365 this afternoon. I am not so sure I am mentally prepared for winter but photographically I am looking forward to the change in season. I think winter produces some of the most beautiful landscapes. It seems that snow can make just about anything look beautiful. I can't wait!

Mercury

I captured these images today of a vacant motel near my house. The coolest thing about this motel is it's retro sign and I made a cool image of it that can be seen as part of Project 365, Day 141. I drive by this motel at least once a day and I decided today that I should probably capture some images before they demolish it.

I made the images into duo-tones because I wanted the images to convey a vintage/retro feeling.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! As you can see my daughter dressed as a zebra and my son was a cowboy. She originally wanted to be horse and her brother was going to be her cowboy, but she found the zebra costume at Old Navy and that was the end of her horse idea. I am a little bummed that we didn't find a horse costume because I think that would have been hysterical. Oh well, they looked great in their costumes anyway.

Well, I am off to "check" on their Halloween candy.

Neon Lights

I am such a sucker for pretty, colorful lights. Above are a couple of images that I liked but I didn't choose for Project 365 yesterday. If you didn't get a chance to see yesterday's image check out Day 134 by clicking here.
